While GranE was here, she remarked how big B-Boy has gotten. She was also surprised to learn that B-Boy was stilling wearing the same shoes I had purchased when he started walking. She was convinced that his shoes MUST be too small.
So off to the shoe store we went. B-Boy got his feet measured, and he was still a size 6 and a half! But we knew it would not be long until he feet sprouted to the next size. So, we bought two more pairs in a size 7. B-Boy is now the owner of a pair of brown sandals and some really nifty white tennis shoes!
He really likes the sandals, and finds them really easy to put on and pull off. Until the leather breaks in, he will wear them with socks... so we will need to go find him a pocket protector to go with them!

Reading is FUNdamental
GatorGrandpa asked me, in response to a previous post, what kind of books B-Boy enjoyed. I thought it was a good question, and would be of interest to some of you. I hope I do not disappoint.
I was what you would call a bookworm as a child. I would have much preferred to sit down and read a book than do just about anything. I hope B-Boy also has that adoration of reading, but perhaps at a more balanced level.
B-Boy still enjoys simple touch and feel books a lot. But he also really likes his book about Trucks. The book is also at his daycare, so he sees it quite a lot. Not only that, but he loves to make the VROOM truck noise when he looks at it.
One of my co-workers, WorkBFF, gave me a big box of books for B-Boy that her kids had finished using. In it was one of my childhood favorites, "Goodnight Moon". It has quickly become one of B-Boy's favorites too. In the evening, he will pick up the book, run over to me, and say "GA!" That's his way of saying "Please read me this book!" He loves it.
In the great green room
there was a telephone
and a red balloon.
and a picture of the cow jumping over the moon
There were three little bears sitting on chairs...
Well you get the point. He asks for us to read that to him almost every night. He adores it as much as I did as a child.
He also loves a bunch of books that my mom gave him before he even came to be in existence. They were in the Grandbaby Box.Well, one of them, I think there were seven!
B-Boy especially likes books that are alliterative. He loves the Dr. Seuss "Hop on Pop", and the book my mother got him called "The Goose is Loose". He is big on alliteration right now. He also adores a book GranE's sister AuntieM gave him - it's a peekaboo book that has flaps that you can open in different directions and see pictures of babies doing baby things... like holding a bear, eating a cookie, putting on shoes... Each time he opens the flap we say "PEEK A BOO! I see you!". He has gotten really good at opening the flaps.
So those are the types of books B-Boy likes. He's a lot like his Momma, he loves books!

Playing Cinderella
After we got home from swimming, I gave B-Boy a bath and dressed him in his PJs while Neb got dinner ready.
When the bath was over, there was still a bit more time for B-Boy and I to play while Neb finished cooking. I was still in my swim suit, and in true Momma fashion, was cold. So I wrapped up in a blanket and sat down on one of the kitchen chairs to play with him.
B-Boy sat on the kitchen floor and played with several stacking cups (also known as Gladware!). He was having fun stacking them inside one another, and then putting them up to cover his mouth while he said "AHHHHH" into them.
B-Boy spotted Neb's flip-flop laying on the floor where Neb had deposited it. He snatched it up, crawled over to me, moved the blanket that was covering my feet aside and tried to put the flip-flop on my foot.
I knew he knew what shoes were. He has even tried to put on his own shoes at home. But I didn't know that he knew that people other than B-Boy put on shoes. It's a pretty good leap to see a shoe and want to put it on another person.
He successfully put the shoe on my foot several times. Each time, I would hide my foot under the blanket, and he always knew where it was.
We had fun playing Cinderella until dinner. I am lucky to have such a cute little Prince!

Swimming once again
So tonight B-Boy started swimming lessons again.
The last time he was in the pool was in October. Neb and I decided it was time for him to get in again. In retrospect, we think we waited too long!
We arrived with B-Boy in good spirits- he had a great day at day care. We thought that was a good sign. We were wrong.
Neb got in the pool first, and as B-Boy and I approached, B-Boy started to moan a bit. By the time we got to the edge of the pool, he was crying. Not good.
He cried for the first half of the lesson, if not more. Getting into the water, something that used to be fun, was now torture. Passing back and forth to Neb, more water torture. And forget laying on his back- it's hard to imagine, but a toddler tantrum CAN be had while your toddler is laying on his back in the pool.
And I had NO idea B-Boy was that strong! He put his arm around my neck, and had a tight grip. I swear I could have let him go and he would not have budged. He was that strong.
I am happy to say that by the end, he was smiling. He finally got into the pool from the side with a smile, and when we passed him back and forth- SMILE. We even dared to put his head under the water... and he did really well with it.
We left on a good note. B-Boy stood on the side of the pool, cocked his head to the side and exclaimed "GA Done!" Yes B-Boy, "All Done".

B-Boy shows us his Imagination
B-Boy did something new yesterday. He did PRETEND play.
We all really enjoyed being outside on a pretty spring day this week. We were on the screened-in porch and B-Boy was having a ball playing with his new truck.
B-Boy started picking pretend flowers and handing them to Neb. He then started to pretend to find things in the seat cushions of the truck... and then hand them to me. He had great fun at his new game, and we were very surprised how detailed his fun was!
But my favorite was what he did with the gas tank... he started adding pretend things to it. I decided they were pretend black jelly beans, because of the size of what he was pretending, and because I don't really like black jelly beans- they must have some good purpose, right?
It was all great fun, and B-Boy even got into letting us hand him pretend things to load in the back of the truck. I just hope he wasn't pretending to move!

More St. Patrick's Day Happiness
B-Boy, Neb and I went to the park today right after work.
B-Boy had a ball with the slide and the swing- and spread some St. Patty's Day cheer on the playground. Several Moms told B-Boy how much they liked his shirt.Hee hee!
When we got home, B-Boy played with his truck some more and then we settled down for a quick family photo before dinner.
We hope you all had a great day!

Daddy's good luck charm
Neb had a midterm while his Mom was here, and once again, B-Boy was his good luck charm.
Father and son were dressed in the same lucky shirt. No word if it worked yet... but they sure were cute!
When I dropped B-Boy off the day before, I had warned his teacher that B-Boy would be wearing the shirt and that it might be a bit alarming. One of the teachers from his old room was right behind us, and said "I remember the shirt! There is no way B-Boy still fits in that!" Nope, we had to order a new one.
His teacher said "Oh, I bet Mrs. H will really like that!" I thought she was being sarcastic.
Until the morning came and B-Boy arrived in his Dad's lucky t-shirt in miniature form. Mrs. H approached the car to get B-Boy. She took one look at him and sang "The Ace of Spades... the Ace of Spades" (one of the big songs that the band on B-Boy's shirt recorded) just like Lemmy does, the lead singer of Motorhead.
I had to laugh. I just thought Mrs. H liked unusual t-shirts, not that she was actually a Motorhead fan. I had to call Neb to tell him. We knew we liked that Mrs. H!

B-Boy gets a truck
For Christmas, GranE and Pop-Pop sent B-Boy a Little Tikes Truck.
The ride-in kind- which is really big! At the time, we decided to put it into storage until the weather turned warmer. This weekend, it was time to bring out the truck. Neb worked in the garage putting it together and I got the fun job of putting on the stickers! It is complete with a working tailgate and a gas cap that opens and closes. Too cute!
It's an adorable truck, and we could not wait for him to wake up to play with it. His reaction did not disappoint. It took a few tries getting in and out of the truck, but he has it down now.

Oh, hi there folks!
What do you think of my new TRUCK?
I'll just get in, and be on my way...
I made sure it had gas, so this should be a good ride!
Bye-Bye! Time to go!
Wheeeeeeee!
Uh oh, watch out for that cat!
Well, we have arrived.
I enjoyed the ride, and I hope you did too.
All in all, the gift was a hit. An added bonus? B-Boy is spending much more time outside on the screened porch playing safely and staying out of trouble. Who needs a pack-n-play when you have a screened porch!
GranE visits her B-Boy
Last week, GranE came to visit B-Boy. It was a great visit, and Neb and I got to go on several dates with such a great babysitter to watch him! YAY! Not only that, but I took a half day off of work one beautiful afternoon....GranE and I got to play a round of golf and I enjoyed it immensely.
Unfortunately, B-Boy did not feel like himself for part of the time that she was here. When he feels icky, he gets irritable and fussy. Poor GranE got to see this not-so-fun side of B-Boy, but she still adores his cute self, and said she could watch him eat all day. (And I must admit, watching him put food in those cute cheeks does make me smile!)
GranE had fun giving B-Boy a bath. B-Boy had fun too!
Then Neb and GranE read him a book before bed. B-Boy likes to "Hop on Pop!". He thought it was great silliness that GranE and his Daddy were saying the same thing at the same time. Ooohhh, surround sound!
And then we finished the night with a quick photo.
Thanks for the visit GranE, we sure can't wait for you to come back!

No, GranE... Mommy will see my tummy...
and you know what that means...
TICKLES!

Knock Knock...
Who's there?
B-Boy!
Yesterday, we realized that one of the cars was about to have its inspection expire. North Carolina has switched from having stickers on your windshield (which made it easier to remember) to having it all tied to your registration. You can't pay for your car to be registered until it is inspected. This process is so confusing, and lots of folks are complaining about it.
So, being the good citizens we are, we met at the inspection station near our house so that we could get both cars inspected, which we did.
And as FASCINATING as that is to all of you, I am sure, that is not the main focus of this post. I tell you this because that is how Neb and I found ourselves in the waiting area with B-Boy. The good news is that there was plenty of room for B-Boy to run around, and there weren't many folks there to get annoyed by it.
While B-Boy ran around, Neb snuck out to the other side of the glass door to watch the progress. Once B-Boy realized where he was, he ran over to the door. He then did something I have not seen him do before... he knocked on the door.
KNOCKED on THE DOOR.
I have seen him bang on the door, lean on the door, but this was the first time I had ever seen him knock. His knock was quite polite, a quiet "hello" kind of knock, as opposed to the "let me in right now" kind of knock that I am sure will be learned very soon.
He did this several times, and I tried to think about how he would have learned that. I had not seen that taught in the daycare as of yet, and so I was a bit confused. It wasn't until we got home and sat down for dinner that the mystery was solved.
I brought it up as we ate, and Neb simply said "Oh, I showed him that the other day. We were outside, and the door shut. When I carried him in, I knocked on the door a few times. He tried it too, but didn't really do it until tonight."
So, the mystery is solved, and B-Boy is now fully qualified to tell Knock-Knock jokes.
Got any good ones? :)
