Mother's Day

This was my second Mother's Day with B-Boy and the sad truth was that I was not able to spend it with him.

Cue the sad music. But don't worry, we made the best of it!

We started the celebration early, as his daycare invited all the Moms to a Mother's Day tea. We ate Bojangles' Bo-Berry biscuits (yum yum yum!) and drank sweet tea. It was fun to see all the Moms and to spend some quality time with our kids and their teachers.

The teachers handed us each a wonderfully colorful present from our kids. The wrapping was so pretty, I had to take a photo!

B-Boy sat with me and we opened the gift together.

B-Boy (with help from his teachers) made me the cutest painted box with a photo of him on it.

I remember this day Mommy. 

I wore those shorts with the US flag on them!

I put it on the windowsill in my office. It has really spruced up the place!

On Mother's Day, I had to fly to Nashville for a conference. My flight was early, so I ended up leaving before B-Boy woke up. I watched him on the baby monitor and said good-bye. The flight was uneventful (thankfully) and I got there with plenty of time before my obligations started. 

The hotel was hosting a Mother's Day brunch, and so I decided to go. I took my Kindle with me, and had a splendid time. I ordered the steak eggs benedict (with steak instead of ham) which was topped with lobster and served with fingerling potatoes. It came with a "Mom-osa" which is a Mother's Day must!

It was so pretty, I had to snap a photo to show you. Just looking at it makes me relax.

What I didn't take a photo of was the desserts... a variety served in a shot glass. The blueberry cheesecake was AMAZING! I also had the Tiramisu one, but the blueberry cheesecake was hands-down the best! I think it was a success that I only ate one!

Later I got a pedicure, which was De-Light-ful. Totally worth every penny... and my cute blue toes with clear sparkles just makes me smile. 

All in all, a good day, even if I was away from my family.

B-Boy's Mother's Day costume

I know, you have been waiting to see his latest costume. I have to admit, I was really excited about what I was going to dress him up as for Mother's Day.

Unfortunately, it did not work.

I had purchased a nice sized gift bag. I cut out holes for legs, and had tissue paper ready to stuff the bag with.

It was going to be adorable. My perfect Mother's Day present.

Only, I forgot to tell B-Boy it was fun. I made it as far as getting him IN the bag, but had to forget about adding the tissue paper...

Instead of going through all the details, I think the pictures will tell a better tale...

Well Mommy, THIS is different!

WAH!!!!

Let's just say he tore the bag to shreds in his... frustration - and leave it at that.

My first Mother's Day

A coworker mentioned to me on Friday that not only will this be my first Mother's Day, but that this will be the ONLY first Mother's Day I will ever have. Which got me thinking, I better make the most of it.

I woke this morning thinking how lucky I am. Not only do I have the cutest and silliest boy in the world who makes my heart smile every time he grins at me... but I am also blessed to have the greatest guy in the world for his Dad. We are a small unit, but a good one.

Neb started the day making B-Boy's bottle (as he does every day), so I could get a few more minutes of rest. When he came back upstairs, he brought 2 cards from Hallmark (he cared enough to carry the very best) and a gift bag. B-Boy's card for me was just so sweet, with a Winnie the Pooh theme. I am happy to report I did not cry. Well, not until the second card... which was from Neb. It was incredibly sweet, and it did make me tear up enough that I had to wipe them away. Neb says he gets bonus points for that.

Then I opened my gift. Wow. Neb got me the most incredibly sparkley diamond earrings... just georgous. Since our wedding anniversary is a little over a week away, he splurged.

So sparkley. I love sparkley! We then headed downstairs for Neb to make us his WAFFLES! I love Neb's waffles... and not just because I don't have to make them. He got the waffle iron as a wedding present and has been making Belgian Waffles ever since. Yummy! All in all it was a great day. B-Boy took a nice long nap this afternoon, which gave me time to rest and stare at my pretty earrings. What a neat Mother's Day gift. Everytime I look at them, I will remember that they were from my very first Mother's Day.

But that wasn't my first Mother's Day gift. The first one came from B-Boy. It was handmade, the first thing he has ever made me. Ok, perhaps he didn't make it ALL by himself... but it was handmade. Literaly.

His teachers at daycare made a picture by putting paint on his hands and pressing them on construction paper, and turning them into flowers. I scanned it at my Mom's yesterday so that I could share it with you. And yes, his teachers did make me cry. Too bad I can't blame it on pregnancy hormones, can I? ;)

I think we have a budding artist... a picasso in the making. What do you think?
