So our favorite cajun restaurant hosted a private crawfish boil for its long time loyal customers today.
Neb and I couldn't wait... but neither of us thought taking an 8 month old sounded like fun. So, we decided to ask our MacFamily friends to watch him. They live a few blocks from the restaurant, and their oldest, aka ChiggerButt, is home from college. She has been looking forward to seeing him, as she hasn't seen him since she helped move my Mom at Thanksgiving.
This is the first time B-Boy has been babysat by someone other than Neb's Mom. And, this is the first time it has been somewhere other than our home. When we dropped him off, we discovered that ChiggerButt had to work until 6, and so MacMommy was going to watch him... They didn't want to tell us earlier because they thought we would back out... and she couldn't wait to get her mitts on him! :) The joke is on them though, cuz I trust them more than just about anyone... and there was crawfish calling after all!
After bringing in what seemed like the entire contents of my living room, and going over what she needed to know, we headed to dinner.
My mom was able to come with us, which was good to see her feeling so well. We had a blast at the crawfish boil, it started with fried catfish (which was AMAZINGLY good), cajun coleslaw and Dixie Beer. The crawfish came to be poured onto the table with sausage, potatoes and corn. We ate until we almost popped.
It was finished with a bowl of bread pudding, that is to die for... thank goodness Neb doesn't like it, because that meant I got to eat his bowl. YUM YUM YUM. My mom said she wasn't ready to die yet, but that she would try the bread pudding... and then declared that it was just as good as I had sold it. We all left satisfied and miserably overstuffed. But in a good way.
We then went back to get B-Boy. He had fallen asleep in MacMommy's arms, and woke when I stupidly rang the doorbell.
But she claimed he had a good visit, played a lot, and then settled down in her arms for a good snuggle. Dash, their 14 year old son, kept him company too. Later, MacDaddy came home from a hot round of golf, followed soon by ChiggerButt. She also couldn't wait to get her mitts on B-Boy... who soaked up all the attention like a pro. He is not yet to the stage where he is afraid of strangers... But when someone new comes in the room near him, his first reaction is to look for me. I smile, and then he goes into "I am happy to see you New Person" mode. I am not sure exactly when that happened, but I think it started anout a month ago.
It was great to get out, especially for such deliciousness. It made us miss the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival... and hopefully we can go next year. I wonder if B-Boy will like the taste of crawfish? Thankfully, I was able to get some when I was pregnant with him, so hopefully the taste will be welcoming to him!
