This week, B-Boy got two very much needed things- a haircut and new shoes!
His old shoes were a size seven, and I had him measured to find he is a size 7 and a half. He had neen wearing his sandals for most of the summer, and some cute blue rubber shoes that ran a bit larger in size. His toes were creeping out of his sandals, so it became quite important to get some new shoes.
The problem is, he is right between the "Baby" and "Kid" category in shoe size. He needs to wear a size 8, and unfortunately, Stride Rite does not carry much in that size. The good news is that his tennis shoes still come in that size, but his brown shoes do not.
B-Boy was quite happy to be in his tennis shoes again, but he doesn't like the brown shoes I bought. I think those will probably get returned, but I'll give it some time.
And to help all of you understand just how big his shoe is... I took this photo with his old pair, new pair, and a dollar bill. I didn't notice until I lined them up... next to each other they don't look quite as different in size as they do when they are seperated. On his feet, the new shoes look HUGE, and the old ones on the floor look so small. Sigh.
The other thing B-Boy got this week was a haircut. His hair was REALLY long, and since it kept getting caught in his bib, I knew it was time to get it cut.
I was not looking forward to this, because of two reasons.
1. The place we took B-Boy to previously was by our old house. I would be taking him to a new spot, which is always tricky.
2. This was the first haircut he would get without a pacifier.
Say what you want, but number 2 was what was really holding me back- having something to block the screaming was such a nice crutch!!!
It took about 3 tries to get the hair actually cut, mostly because I didn't want to wait in line for 45 minutes the first two times... but the third time was the charm! It went pretty well, mostly because he watched Elmo on my iPhone the whole time- but he cried quite a bit.
I was pleased with the result, and shocked at how much the cut aged him. Gone was my baby boy, and what remained was a growing boy!

B-Boy gets another haircut
You probably noticed that B-Boy's hair was REALLY long in that last blog entry. It was, and so we went out to get it cut.
We decided to try a new place, one that was much nearer to our house. BIG MISTAKE. The woman who attempted to cut it soaked his head with spray while he screamed. She told us he looked like he needed a nap, to which I replied that he had just woken up. Nothing we did could get him to calm down. So, we tipped her and left.
We took him to the park and let him run around. Later in the day, after his big nap, we took him into town to the place we normally go. (Sports Clips, if you are wondering, because the TVs help distract B-Boy!) The woman who has cut his hair before.ended up cutting his hair again. She is a mom, and sprayed her comb away from B-Boy so as not to scare him. It was night and day compared to the earlier attempt! It went really well, he didn't cry at all!
Of course, letting him watch "Math is Everywhere" with The Count from Sesame Street on my iPhone might have had something to do with it!
I snapped this photo of him right after, his interest in the phone unbreaking.
He looks so different now! I swear he has aged two years just by getting the cut. The next day we went to the park and he had more fun. I got some cute pics that show off his new haircut, so I thought I would share them with you.
He looks different, right? I still haven't gotten used to it.

Wheeeeee!
I have lots to think about...
I am not ready to slide yet!
Mommy, I am NOT four!
He looks different, right? I still haven't gotten used to it.

B-Boy gets a haircut
Actually, he got several of them cut! Hee hee.
GranE and I took B-Boy to get his first official haircut this week. I have cut his hair several times at home but now that he is mobile it is much more difficult (and dangerous!). He turns his head so quickly to see what Mommy has in her hand, and will take off if not strapped into his high chair. Just not good.
And, he was in great need of a haircut. So, off to Sports Clips we went. I thought that the TVs, football on said TVs and all the bright colors would distract him long enough to get his hair cut. They took him right away, and we decided the best way would be for B-Boy to sit in my lap. GranE was sweet enough to take photos for us.
A gown was wrapped around his neck, and he sat down quietly, taking everything in. To be sure he was comfy, I gave him a pacifier, which worked like a charm. The woman who cut his hair was really sweet and patient... but most importantly- FAST!
She cut one side, and then I moved him to sit on the other leg, so that he could get the other side cut. No complaints. YAY!
Then she cut the top, front and then the back. All was well until the very end.
When she brought out the clippers. B-Boy tolerated the clippers for a few moments, and then crawled up my lap to put his head above my shoulders. She finished pretty quickly and then brought out the hair dryer to get the fallen pieces of hair off of him. Big mistake, because the melt down began.
He started to cry, and then we decided we were indeed done. GranE took him outside while I paid the good folks at Sports Clips. It was a great haircut, and I cannot get over how much older he looks now!

B-Boy's first trim
B-Boy was born with a full head of hair. He kept most of it, but a lot of it fell out in the tub a few weeks after he was born.
As such, he has a really full head of hair now. Well, actually, he has a lot of hair fluffing around his ears and flopping into his eyes.
I finallly could not take it anymore, and sat him down for a trim. It doesn't count as a full haircut, since I only trimmed around his ears and the front of his head. Part the way through, he started putting his jaw in a silly position. I think he is enjoying the new tooth... and the difference it feels on his gums. Afterward, he finished up with a bowl of yummy spinach, and we were both happier once it was over.
He's still a cutie!!!

Baby Fuzz
Aside from being cute and cuddly, have you noticed babies are fuzzy? Well, mine is at least!
B-boy was born with a full head of hair... so fine and fuzzy that he reminded me of a muppet! I thought that his hair would fall out that first night, as my parents told me happened with me. But on Day 2, he still had a full head of hair! Same thing weeks later...
Well, it is finally starting to fall out. And it is not happening all at once, like I thought it would. It is starting at the front and gradually falling out towards the back! I didn't know where the hair was going until last night.
B-boy had his first bath in the baby bathtub last night. Prior to that, he was getting sponge baths because he hated being washed, and I was able to keep him warm by covering him with the towel when I was washing another area. The tub worked great, and he hardly cried at all. He really enjoyed the bath in the tub (until I washed his hair)!
Afterward, Neb took him to get dressed while I cleaned up the bath stuff. I started to empty the tub, and noticed the bottom had lots of tiny short hairs floating around! He still has lots of hair on his head, but at least the mystery of where the hairs are going is solved!
Now if we can just figure out who killed JFK, all will be known! :)
