One of the things I discovered upon returning to North Carolina is that B-Boy somehow acquired more teeth!
In a previous post, I mentioned that B-Boy had ten teeth... four in the front on the top and bottom, as well as 2 molars on the top. I am happy to report that he has two more molars on the bottom. How I missed them is beyond me. I bet he just found them lying around somewhere... because I never saw them come in.
One day there were gums there, and the next full grown molars!
And that is not all. His incisors are starting to come in on both the top and bottom. He had red bumps where the teeth should be, a sure sign. And now? Now the telltale little white peaks are starting to appear on the bottom. Yikes. Lets keep our fingers crossed that he is not a biter!

Molars
I don't know exactly when they arrived. His teachers told me a few weeks ago that they thought they felt some coming in, but B-Boy has 2.... count them.... 2 molar teeth!
In true son of Nebeli fashion, B-Boy sported his first year molars in symmetrical fashion. Both came in at the same time and are the same size, one on each side of his mouth.
I noticed them last night while playing a fun game of Tickle B-Boy And Make Him Laugh. I was playing with his tummy making Zerbert noises. (Those of you who watched The Cosby Show know that is simply putting my mouth on his belly and blowing air out. The noise that is produced sounds like he is passing really loud gas. B-Boy loves it, and laughs a hearty giggle each time.) As I zerberted him, he opened his mouth and gave a hearty laugh- and then I saw them! Two white, gleaming teeth in the place where gums had been previously! The gums are still there, but you should see the teeth! I called Neb over and showed him. We were both very excited.
So for those of you keeping score, that is is ten teeth. Six on top and four on the bottom.
I am starting to think his bark is not going to be worse than his bite for long at this rate!

Three Baby Teeth
It's been coming for awhile now, but this morning I noticed that B-Boy's third tooth FINALLY cut through the gum.
He has had two bottom teeth since April, when I was in Seattle. They cut through while I was gone. For the last few weeks, we could see his top gum swell, and last week you could see a definite white color behind a thin layer of gum.
This morning after he finished his bottle, I sat him down on the floor of his room. We have a REALLY big stuffed puppy dog that B-Boy likes to lay over and grab its ears. It is white with long, fuzzy, brown ears, and B-Boy really enjoys playing with it. The puppy has to be at least three feet long, and part of the "play" is to roll over onto his back, smile at me and then try to shimmy backwards headfirst over the puppies back.
This morning he got pretty close to getting all the way over the puppy, and when he completed his "back bend", he opened his mouth to laugh.
And I saw it. The third tooth. It finally broke through and was sticking out quite a bit. It wasn't that way at noon yesterday, but other than that, I couldn't tell you when it happened.
So now baby boy officially has three teeth. Judging from the way he is tugging at his ear, the fourth one cannot be far behind.

It's good to be home... cue the toothy grin!
I have lots to report... I am back home, and have been for a few days. Lots happened while I was gone, and since I have been home!
First thing, seeing B-Boy for the first time was all I had thought it would be! He's grown so much in one week, I can't believe it. He looks older, bigger, and longer.
When I got to the day care, his teacher looked beside herself. B-Boy was out in the hallway, as he was waking up all the other babies. With good reason... he is teething!
Item to note: B-Boy's first tooth broke through while I was in Seattle! I don't have the exact date, as Neb didn't notice it right away.
The second one is almost up, and Neb swears a third one is on its way. Which means that B-Boy's temperment has not been good... very similar to the colicky baby I knew and loved on maternity leave. His poor teachers didn't stand a chance. They thought he was moody before HA! Now that he is showing his actual moody self... I just hope we don't get kicked out of day care.
Ah yeah, side note, Neb's mom told him a story while on a walk the other day, about how he got kicked out of day care... because he woke all the other babies!!! Hmmm... I wonder where B-Boy gets it? ;) I don't know of anyone who has been thrown out of this particular daycare, but I wouldn't put it past B-Boy's temperment... cuz he is a handful when he gets mad.
So this was clearly not the week to be out of town.
I stayed with him for two hours or so, and then drove home in a haze. I was able to get a few hours of light sleep on the plane, but not much. After a big nap, GranE and Pop-Pop came over for dinner. They left the next morning to head home, so there was not much time to snap some photos... but I made do!
B-Boy is going to miss his GranE and Pop-Pop. They rode off into the sunset (literally!) on thier motorcycle, back to the RV. So long GranE and Pop-Pop! Can't wait for the next visit!
Oh yeah, and B-Boy is rolling like crazy, mostly in one direction! I'll post the video soon, I promise!

Look under my tongue Mommy!

Poor B-Boy, he's still sick.. but improving!
Last week, I just couldn't sit by any longer. B-Boy was not getting better. In fact, he sounded worse.
If you remember, a few weeks ago, B-Boy was diagnosed with a mild Croup. Well, either he got something in addition to that, or the Croup is worse. On Monday, one of his teachers called me saying his cough sounded really bad, and she was concerned.
So back to the doctor we went. Only I couldn't see our regular one, so we saw another in the practice. I was told his ears were clear, and that his chest sounded clear too. His chest didn't sound that good to me, but OK... at least I knew it was not an ear infection.
Fast forward to Tuesday evening. I returned from Williamsburg, snuggled up to B-Boy, and his breathing sounded really bad. His cough was wetter sounding and he just looked miserable. He wasn't eating like normal, after about 4 ounces, he would stop. (He normally eats 7 ounces at a time.) He would cough himself awake several times at night, so in the morning he would be exhausted.
So, on Wednesday, I called back to Healthcare and asked for an appointment with our regular doctor. At 1:30, B-Boy and I went to see her. We basically heard the same thing... ears clear, chest ok. She was hesitant to put him on an antibotic, but if he didn't get better, she would. She suggested he not go back to daycare. Sigh.
So off I went to notify his daycare that he was going home, what the diagnosis (or lack thereof) was, and to tell my boss that I needed to go home. One of his teachers was really upset that they did nothing, since his chest and cough sounded just like another boy in the room, who is on an antibiotic and breathing treatment. To hear her so upset, broke my heart, and also made the little voice in the back of my head say "see, you aren't crazy... do something!"
So I did. My OB's wife is a pediatrician. I had researched her when trying to decide on B-Boy's care. I looked up her number and called, thinking that if they had availability, we would go. They did, and we did a half an hour later.
The pediatrician, Dr. Z, was wonderful. She tested his oxygen levels by clipping something to his big toe, and took blood. She heard a rasp in his chest, and said his white blood count was elevated, indicating he is fighting off some kind of infection. She perscribed some antibiotics, and suggested he do a breathing treatment. Afterward, they tested his oxygen again. Since it was improved, and he sounded better, she sent us home with a loaner machine and told us to come back on Friday.
He has improved greatly since then. His breathing is better, his cough reduced, and he is back to eating normally. YAY! Baby boy is smiling again, and seems more his old self.
Now if there was just something we could do for this teething thing... Dr. Z showed me he has 2 teeth coming up on the bottom!

Solid! I give it a B.
So today B-Boy got another first... he had his first foray into solid foods!
Today was beautiful, and B-Boy got a warm walk with Neb followed by all three of us sitting on the screened-in porch. It was fun to watch the golfers and feel a little like our old selves... it made Neb want to be on the course again, and frankly, me too. It was just that nice out.
Afterward, we sat B-Boy's bouncer seat on the kitchen table to feed him. Neb started with his bottle, and then when we were SURE he was happy, I started introducing the spoon. Neb took camera duty and got some great photos.
What did he have? Nothing very exciting, actually. We fed him rice cereal mixed with some formula, heated to take the chill off. It was the consistency of runny elmer's glue, and now that I think of it, looked exactly like that!
We kept waiting for:
a) a meltdown into fussiness
b) a sneeze, thereby covering us in pastey goo
c) spit up
I can happily report we got none of that. B-Boy was in good spirits, and ate about 10 spoonfuls of the stuff. (Incidentally, I fed him out of a bowl I used to eat oatmeal out of when I was a little girl. They were bowls from my grandmother's house, and I adored them. They aren't much too look at, but I have such happy and warm memories associated with them... they make me smile and think of my Mema everytime I use them. If you look closely in the second picture, you will see the bowl.)
Neb and I remained clean, and B-Boy did really well with the spoon. We even got a smile!
Also, I think it is official... B-Boy is teething. No teeth have shown up yet, but all the telltale signs are there. He is drooling like a Saint Bernard, and will stick just about anything in his mouth. B-Boy hates the teething rings that we have for him, and prefers more exotic items for teething on... The first was a rubber giraffe named "Sophie" that Neb swears is a dog toy (You can see it behind him in the pictures above). Yep, it is squishie and makes a high pitched squeak like dog toys. I can assure you it is not a dog toy, it is ranked number one on amazon.com for baby toys. Okay, I admit, I never did check the ranking of this toy on the dog list... Which makes me wonder, what will be the state of amazon.com when B-Boy is old enough to read this? Will be interesting to see that!
The daycare found that he likes to gum on foam letters. How they figured that out is beyond me. I went to feed him one day, and he was grasping onto something green. He kept putting it in and out of his mouth, and I was amazed that he was holding on to it for so long... as he has a habit of tossing things aside at the moment. I had to ask what it was, and his teacher told me it was the letter Q! I kid you not. B-Boy was gumming Q. It was from a set of bath toys, foam letters to play with in the bath!
So I had to go out and purchase some of those nifty foam letters, which I found on my second trip to Target. Later, he can use them in the tub, as they will stick to the wall. But in the meantime, I gave B-Boy one to gum on... since he is having fun with his Bbbbbbbbb sounds, he gummed the letter B today. Yep, today was sponsored by the letter B.

What's that Mom?
This is NOT a nipple...
This feels weird...and my hand looks all blurry!
Hee Hee, this feels funny!
What-cha talkin' 'bout Mom?
Okay, I'm done. What's next?
