Rollin' in from Seattle

I am at the airport in Seattle, taking the red-eye flight back home. I can't wait to see B-Boy and Neb. My flight is at midnight, connecting in Chicago, and I'll land at 9:30am. The plan is to go see B-Boy immediately, so I can get caught up on my B-Boy snuggles. I'll hug him, and kiss him and play with him and... you get the picture. After that, I will head home for a long NAP. Ah, precious sleep.

I got to go to the Space Needle today- my first visit there. While there, I got an email from Neb. It made me giggle, so I am sharing it with you. Enjoy!

Just thought you should know....

Your son can't be stopped... he rolls from front to back to front to back to front...

There are one or two problems, depending on how you look at it. He can only roll to his left. That means that the living room is not long enough because he'll roll from one side of the room to the other... at least until you flip him over (head to toe). Then he rolls all the way left to the other side of the room.

Can't wait to show you.

Neb

He assures me he took some video of it. I'll upload it for you as soon as I can.

Missing B-Boy

B-Boy is having a ball with GranE. Or actually, rolling like one for her.

Saturday, she watched B-Boy so that Neb and Pop-Pop could go play golf. Nice! While she watched him, she laid him on the floor on his back. A little while later, she noticed he was on his tummy! He appartently rolled over on his own.

This is the first time he has rolled from his back to his tummy since the day he did it for the first time ever! Not only that, but later she SAW HIM DO IT! Wow, that is amazing.

I am sad I missed it, but am so happy that GranE got to be part of this.

On a personal note, I miss him like crazy. I must have shown his photo book to at least 20 people yesterday... a lot of the folks here missed me at the fall conferences while I was on maternity leave. It helps, because then I have an excuse to look at him... and then it feels like he is here too.

I just wish the book could give me a B-Boy snuggle. I really miss those.

Roll Over!

I mentioned earlier that B-Boy rollled over from his tummy to his back at daycare. Yesterday morning, he did it at home about 5 times!

We were getting ready for work, and Neb said it was time to play roll games. He put him on the floor on a blanket and rolled him from his back to his tummy so B-Boy could do some tummy time. If you have been reading this blog, you will recall that B-Boy does not like tummy time very much.

It only took B-Boy a few minutes to realize "Hey! I am on my tummy, and I don't want to be. So guess what? I'm changing this!" And he did. He moved his head back, and over he went. And then he smiled a big smile. "Oh, you didn't know I could do this so well? Hee hee!"

I grabbed the video camera so I could share it with you. Click on the window below to play it. Enjoy!

He is now doing it all the time, and looks like a real pro. Not sure how we will get him to stay on his tummy now!

Be the Ball... and Roll!

I know you are eager to see B-Boy's next costume, and you probably thought it would be Easter related. But you would be wrong.

We live in North Carolina, and we can't let the month of March end without a costume to pay tribute to March Madness!!!

I found a cute basketball-like material, kinda rubbery and bumpy like a basketball.... and decided B-Boy had to be a basketball for March Madness. I hope you enjoy his photos...

Be the Ball, got it Dad!

Wow, I even make THIS look GOOD!

B-Boy went to daycare wearing his costume... he wanted to show his teachers!

Someone make my mommy stop using the sewing machine, please!

The costume fun continued later this evening... B-Boy and Neb watched Ole Miss playing in the Final Four of the NIT Basketball Tournament. B-Boy played with his half ball with Dad for a bit.

Dad, where's the hoop?

Oh, and speaking of goofy... He took a BIG nap at daycare today. I think being a ball and having to bounce wore him out! :) For some reason, I giggled watching him sleep. I took a picture so you could see why. His eyes are covered by the blanket on his lovey, apparently he likes his eyes shaded, and likes to rub the soft. silky fabric on his head by shaking it back and forth. Too funny.

Where are the grapes and palm fronds?
Good help is SOOO hard to find!

I think that he was channeling being a ball today, because he rolled over from his tummy to his back for the FIRST TIME at daycare today!!!  He hasn't done it at home, but he did at daycare. Only, no one actually saw it. One of his teachers put him down on his tummy. A few minutes later, another of his teachers asked if she had turned B-Boy to his back. Then they realized no one did, except B-Boy! He turned over!

I am not suprised. He turned from his back to his tummy at daycare for the first time. I was fortunate to be there for that... and I know it won't be long before he does it for us at home. I'll keep you posted!

Like a Rollin' Stone... Amazing.

Today was a big day of firsts!

Neb had his midterm exam today, and so B-Boy was once again wearing a matching onesie to Neb's lucky t-shirt. (Neb had to order B-Boy a new one, since he already outgrew the first one.) To complete his rocker look, B-Boy wore his first pair of blue jeans today! He looked so cute, even though his shirt looked a bit menacing.

Are you ready to ROCK?

After daycare, B-Boy and I stayed after for an infant massage class. Two of his teachers are providing it, and I really look forward to the class on Monday evenings. B-Boy seems to enjoy it for the most part, and it really helps us get him to relax to go to sleep.

When I arrived at his classroom, he was "singing"... he has taken to do this a lot lately. I think he is finding his voice very interesting, and he likes to practice using it, especially in the car. It was quite funny, since he was well into some B-Boy Opera when I arrived.

We all sat on the floor with our babies in thier diapers only, laying on their back. Class had just started and we were reviewing how to massage his legs, when all of the sudden, B-Boy was ON HIS TUMMY!!!!

I was shocked. As you may have read in my previous post this morning, I thought it would be a week or two before he did this. It took a few moments for it to sink in... my baby is on his tummy... because he ROLLED there!

I was holding his foot at the time because that was what we were massaging. How he managed to roll over with his foot in my hand is beyond me. The best thing is that I had several witnesses, but unfortunately, Neb was taking his test at the time and couldn't be there.

Fast forward to later tonight... I fed B-Boy and changed his diaper. We both got on the floor to lay on a blanket. I laid him on his back so that we could play. Before I knew it, he was on his tummy AGAIN!!! Unfortunately, Neb was making B-Boy's bottles for tomorrow's meals and missed it. And in classic B-Boy style, he refused to do it again.

Oh well. I am sure it won't be the last time. But I must say, this is one of the most exciting things since he was born. The smile was wonderful, giggles are great... but to see your little boy roll over for the first time is just amazing. Almost as amazing as watching your baby's daddy teach your son how to roll over.

Amazing.

More milestones!

So Neb's Mom, aka eGran, called last night for an update on B-Boy. I had so much to tell, and appreciated that she called to find out what he was up to!

You might be wondering why I haven't been posting this past week... well, I was sick, and B-Boy was FUSSY and I am not completely convinced he didn't have a small bug too. And before you ask, he had a fever several times this week, and just as many trips to the doctor, with a clean bill of health each time. No red throat, ears ok, and temp ok to stay in daycare.  But he did have two more shots this week, which does explain a lot of this.

So let's get  to the fun part...

B-Boy is growing so fast. He is firmly in the 9 month and 12 month old clothes AT FOUR AND A HALF MONTHS!!!  His arms are long enough for him to grasp the lambs and stars that hang down from the mobile on his swing. He bats at them quite a bit now, and the swing is swaying much slower now with his increased weight. I am just hoping we can keep him in it for another month- or until I can find something else as affective at calming him. As the magic 8 ball says "outlook not good." Sigh.

Another issue... B-Boy is almost too big for his carseat! Yikes!!!! This upcoming weekend. we will go to purchase his next carseat. I am going to miss this one as I can lift it out of the car with him in it... which is great when he is sleeping as I don't have to disturb him. The car seat is good up to 35 pounds, but he is just almost too long for it now. Plus my elbows can't take the weight pulling him in and out in that seat much longer... it's heavy!!!

Another problem?  Since he is outgrowing his carseat, he is outgrowing his stroller! We have a nifty system that the carseat clicks into a stroller frame... so nice! Neb is going to love going shopping next weekend, wink wink.

We decided to try out the jogging stroller without the carseat this weekend. The weather was wonderful, sunny and 67 after cold temperatures all week. We strapped him in and hit the road. B-Boy seemed to enjoy the new perspective. He had been facing us as we walked, but now that the car seat is out, he faces front! He chewed on his toys, hugged his lovey, and sucked on his hand happily. I snapped a few pictures to capture this happy first.

When Neb and I put him in, he was on a bit of an incline... but after a bit of walking, we figured out that we could change it so he would sit more upright... MUCH BETTER!!!

Ah... this is comfy.. and FUN!!!

What are you looking at, Mommy?

And since I am talking about milestones, another big one is coming! B-Boy is SOOOO close to rolling over to his belly. He continues to master rolling on his side... and when he does, Neb just gives him a little nudge and over he goes! He holds his head so high and smiles as if to say, "See I am a big boy! Look what I just did!" Each time, it takes less nudging from Neb. We give it a week, two maximum before he does it on his own. I'll keep you posted.

Well, I need to run to work... in case you are wondering, I am typing this one handed while I pump- it's the only time I get nowadays!
